About Oz Powerball

History Of Oz Powerball:

The great success of the national Australian game, Oz Lotto, led to the Australian Powerball launch in 1996 with the very first draw taking place on the 23rd May 1996. This lottery was originally modeled on the American Powerball lottery and followed a very similar format. In March 2013 the game format was updated to make it more attractive to players. It was then updated again in April 2018 with an additional number being added along with a 9th prize tier. The game became easily recognizable by its catchy tagline: "One ball could change it all!"

The game uses 2 separate ball barrels and players must choose 2 separate sets of numbers – standard numbers and the Powerball.

The biggest jackpot prize won on the Australian Powerball is currently $80 million AUD. This giant jackpot prize was shared between 2 ticket holders, one from Victoria and the other from New South Wales. This record jackpot was won on 30 July 2009 and at the time was the biggest jackpot ever won in Australia. Shortly thereafter an Oz Lotto jackpot to the value of AUD$106 million was won and broke this record.

Changes implemented on the 1st March 2013 mean that the jackpot will increase in increments estimated at AUD$10 million once the jackpot has reached or passed the AUD$10 million mark.

Oz Powerball has a limit of 25 consecutive draws at which point if the jackpot is still not won, the funds will be awarded to the second prize tier.
